Graceland is now a national historic site..wtf?

First..if you have ever seen the inside of Elvis' home..the man's taste was in his ass. Its garish and gaudy as hell. I have seen better home decor in Oildale..and dude..thats saying ALOT.

Second, many historically important places are on the "list"..Monticello, The White House, and the Alamo are places that should be listed as historical monuments for we..the people..BUT GRACELAND??? wtf makes that an important historical landmark? Was it all those FBI badges ol Elvis got during his stint as a drug enforcement agent? Or maybe its that he holds the record for the most perscription drugs swallowed at one time by a fat, over-the-hill lounge lizard?

I'm sorry, but Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley surely lobbied for this honor, and its bullshit. I loved Elvis' music and his rich voice before he became a fat caricature of himself, with that huge gut and rhinestones coming out his ass..er..cape..

Fewer than 2,500 locations are designated as National Historic Landmarks across the US...this shouldn't be one of them.

15 people gave us their .02 cents:

I hated that talentless tool from the first time I heard him, and my opinion hasn't changed one iota since then.

Ouch!

I've never been to Graceland. Bill Frist must have his grubby hands in this one. Grubby quack hands.

Oh girlie! Better not let my mother hear you say such things!! She was a minion of the Elvis thing up until he died. She even went to his funeral. Can you fucking believe it??? She thinks he's even still ALIVE. My mother is not a strange or flakey person either, but she does have a tendency to be a conspiracy theorist. Good GRAVY!

i was like bruce when i was younger. hated elvis. hated disco, too.
i toured Graceland with the family though, back in the late 90s. my wife's mom was a big elvis fan. i can honestly say after taking the tour that i understood him a whole lot more. i think he did have a wonderful voice in his prime, too.
if the purpose of the list is to preserve landmarks of american culture and promote them, then, sorry dusty but graceland makes it. there is no denying the impact that elvis had on the culture of the country in the 50s and beyond. it is a landmark, not a monument.
so, do you think we should start lobbying for 700 haight ;-P

Actually Kurt, thats a damn good idea darlin..the Haight was da shit in its day and I was there..I used to go to Golden Gate Park and watch the dead, quiksilver messenger service and lots of others play for free on the weekends..it was great..

it had as much impact on us as elvis had on our parents I think..

Don't be cruel even if Elvis was a fool.

Whats next neverland ranch.

Thousands of Americans visit Graceland every year. I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but Elvis was possibly the biggest American pop legend ever. So I'd have to disagree with ya here.
