Barroid Bonds to sue authors of "Game of Shadows"

He is NOT however suing for libel. He is suing for the profits of the book to be withheld from the authors. His attorney has issued a letter to the San Francisco Chronicle detailing his request for a temporary restraining order against the book which is to come out today. The suit is being filed in Cali under the "unfair competition law". Bond's attorney is also going to ask a federal judge to initiate contempt proceedings based on the Grand Jury transcripts that were used in the writing of the book.Bonds attorney states the GJ transcripts were obtained illegally under federal law. Bonds is going to sue Sports Illustrated, the Chronicle, the publisher Gotham Books and both authors.

The fact that Barroid isn't suing for slander or libel says volumes regarding his guilt. He is attempting to use a technicality to halt the sale of the book. The pdf version of the letter sent to the San Fran Chronicle is here. Espn has the story up on their site regarding the lawsuit, as do several others. The SF Giants declined comment, stating its a personal problem for Barroid, not the club.

This is a last resort on his part, because he knows he can't sue for libel, and if the injunction is granted, then there's something rotten in Denmark.

Something rotten? Nothing is rotting but his legacy at this point. The first amendment will most likely protect the writers. Both legal eagles that addressed this suit on tv have said its a pathetic attempt on Barroid's part.

this action allows him to claim that his attorneys are handling the issue and protecting his reputation without having to address the specifics of it. poor bastard will wind up doing fantasy spring training camps with Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco before it is done - becuz high powered lawyers are expensive.

True most likely Kurt..but his tarnished image will put him in the company of Pete Rose more so than Big Mac.

Barry never has been good with his money..so the high powered lawyers will cost him dearly since he is at the end of his career.

"Declined comment" = "Of course he's guilty--use your common sense!"

Barry is guilty of being the greatest baseball player of all time. Just funnin.

I hate barry's attitude almost as much as I dislike the giants.

Bonds' laWyer was on Dan Patrick's show today, with Roger Cossack, and Cossack ripped him a new one. When asked why he wasn't suing for libel, he said that it was still a "possibility". Uh huh, right...

Good for ol' Roger..its common sense, they have no case..Rog said first amendment protects the authors right?

Barroid just looks that much worse by filing this suit..its frivolous.

The judge turned down the injunction, for now at least, so it doesn't look good for Mr. Balco.

I think that barry bonds does steroids. i i thinkt hat he is a bad person and that he should be banned fromt he game of baseball. he brings great dishonor to baseball with all of his sly cheating methods, and he is ruining the integrity of the game eveyr second of the day that the major league baseball refuses to take action against him. i thinkt hat this record of 73 home runs should be wiped from the record books immediately and he should be thrown in jail to help make an example to other athletes that are currently taking steroids, or even if they are thinking aobut taking steroids.
