Today is the big day in Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday. They are holding Mardi Gras you know..whether its right or wrong to do so is a big question being debated by some.
There are still residents of New Orleans without places to live. There are people rebuilding but not elevating their homes. Scientists state unequivocably that the hurricane season is getting longer and more intense each year thanks to global warming.
The city and parish still have not given residents any guidelines for rebuilding. The building codes haven't changed to reflect the weakness in the levees. This of course means it will all happen again, the flooding and destruction.
Its incredibly expense to raise your house. Sure, many of the poor residents can't afford to rebuild, let alone put their homes on stilts. But some people that CAN afford to raise their homes aren't either. They are building bigger or nicer homes, instead of spending the money on insuring their home will survive the next big hurricane.
And it will happen again. Take it to the bank sportsfans.

Of course it will happen again, and again, and again...
if i was getting low interest disaster relief money, i'd probably re-build too. kind of like the big houses out on Cape Hatteras that keep getting knocked down...
Good call, Kurt. The entire Outer Banks is that way.
All the more reason to party now and blame the government later.
