The U.S. Senate is considering the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, which would require that pets and service animals are included in disaster evacuation plans.
Please help us get this law passed today. Send one of our moving eCards to your friends and family and urge them to take action. Each card tells the touching story of a pet rescued by The Humane Society of the United States after Hurricane Katrina. At the very least, email or call your Senator or Representative and tell them to support the PETS act. I know this isn't a feel good pic..and I am sorry but I will not get off this soapbox anytime soon. The smallest,most helpless victims of disasters need our protection, the government will not do it without our pressure. It will explain the bill and what is in it, plus for those lazy folks, it has a form that will automatically be sent to your Senator after you fill it out.

I completely agree with you on this one 100%! Pets are living breathing beings too! Though I do not have any pets at this time, if I did have one and had to evacuate again (last year, Rita caused evacuation from the Houston-metro area) and had a pet I would take it with me. I will definitely check out that form you're talking about and fill it out. Thanks for letting us know how to help.
We adopted a hurrican dog! She is the best and every day I wonder if her family misses her and regrets that they had to leve her behind. She was cataloges after the adoption and we knew that until Dec 2005 if she was found we had to give her back.
Sheri, I am so glad you adopted one of those poor creatures. I have nothing but abandoned or abused pets and they are the best in the world.
